2022 World Sight Day: Medical Aid Trust International Promotes Eye Health for Children

In commemoration of this year’s World Sight Day, Medical Aid Trust International organized a free eye screening and eye health education programme for school children today at Pioneer Education Centre in Benin City. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regular eye checkups for children and to provide necessary care to those in need. A total of 101 beneficiaries were screened, with refractive errors being the most common diagnosis affecting 42 individuals.
Children rely heavily on their eyes to learn and develop, making it crucial that any eye health issues are addressed early on. Those who struggle with eye conditions often face challenges in their education and overall well-being. Therefore, parents and guardians should prioritize regular eye checkups for their children, regardless of whether they show symptoms. Downplaying the importance of early detection can potentially lead to blindness, highlighting the necessity of proactive measures.
World Sight Day, celebrated on the third Thursday of October, serves as a reminder of the significance of preserving and improving vision for individuals worldwide. This year’s message is simple yet poignant: “Love Your Eyes and help a child to do the same.” By raising awareness and providing necessary support, we can positively impact the lives and sight of the children in our community.
Medical Aid Trust International aims to improve the sight and overall well-being of individuals in our part of the world. With your support, we can signal a hopeful future for better vision and provide necessary resources to those in need.
