From Pain to Happiness: How Medical Aid Trust is Creating Impact
Over 5 years of being diagnosed for Appendix, 24 years old Happiness has been bearing the pain while switching jobs as a housekeeper and cleaner. In July, 2021, she heard about one of Medical Aid Trust comprehensive outreaches held in Benin City in a radio jingle and took permission to try her luck.
The advert said, everything is free, including drugs and surgeries. I took permission at work to be able to attend because my monthly pay for a year cannot pay for the surgery in a regular hospital based on my past enquiries
When she arrived at the venue for the first time on the 2nd day of the outreach, she consulted with one of the doctors, who asked her why her face looks unhappy even though her name is Happiness. The Doctor later confirmed the diagnosis and asked her to come with a relative the following day to serve as witness for the consent form.
Happiness underwent the procedure and it was successfully completed.
Today, Happiness is happy and grateful, majorly for a successful surgery, also for the free support received.
This heartwarming story of Happiness’ journey to better health is just one example of the millions of individuals out there who are silently suffering from life-threatening health issues. Limited access to quality healthcare is a harsh reality for these people, preventing them from discovering and addressing their ailments in a timely manner.
Medical Aid Trust International will continue to create impact through medical aid outreaches. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to live a healthy life, regardless of their circumstances.
